Preserving Access

We advocate safe practices, proper learning channels, and personal responsibility by sport enthusiasts, and are committed to doing our part to help maintain access for these growing sports.

We're using today's new technologies to help assist sport enthusiasts work together to protect their riding areas through the use of online surveys, popular social networking sites, and downloadable resources that can help make the sport safer and more accessible for everyone.

We also are creating open-source websites, where sport participants can help steer development of ASF and affiliate programs, curriculum, and training materials. This will help make our sports safer, educate newcomers about local guidelines and restrictions, and facilitate working as a team in a collaborative, open-source environment to address access and growth management issues. This unique way of developing our programs and services assures that we always work in the best interests of the sport and its participants.

In sports such as kitesurfing, many areas are experiencing exponential growth of kiteboarders on beaches, lakes, and rivers across the United States. Quite frankly, many city and county officials do not have an adequate understanding of the sport, and find it much easier to just ban the sport in the given area. Our goal is to help educate those in charge of managing public safety, that kiteboarding can be relatively safe with proper instruction and an adequate location for practicing safely.

We are also working to increase our options for safe places to practice, which includes seeking access permission of public lands for recreational use.
