F.A.Q.'s

FAQ's about ASF

We are sure you have plenty of questions about Action Sports Foundation. Here's a few of the most commonly asked questions and answers.

Q- Who is ASF and where did this idea come from?

A- We are a diverse group of athletes and instructors with backgrounds in many action sports, based in the St. Petersburg, Florida area. Our dream of creating a charitable action sports organization began several years ago, with a small group of kiteboarders and an idea. Since then, our group has pursued this dream, and have been able to assemble some great events for some great people, including foster care children, disabled veterans, and youth. Realizing that making a difference can also be fun, we wanted to help others do these things in their areas, and have since dedicated ourselves to making it a reality.

Q- What does ASF actually do?

A- In short, we are the catalyst for making action sports more accessible to everyone, especially those who would not have a chance to participate any other way. ASF works with other organizations to create and administer action sport programs to youth groups, veteran groups, schools, and clubs.  We provide equipment, training, and supervision by professional athletes and instructors, who have planned these activities to be fun, educational, and safe. By partnering with other organizations, we help bring more great events and service projects to a larger audience.

We also set up environmental cleanup and improvement projects, promote personal responsibility in action sports, and work together to maintain access with all user groups. Check out our Mission and Objectives and other parts of this website for more information.

Q- What are the benefits of a community or industry partnership?

A- Community partners and industry partners enable ASF to operate effectively, and we want to give as much back to them as possible. Our events can be molded to fit the needs of an organization, such as accommodating disabled participants or by providing specific educational curriculum for youth, in subjects such as the environment, sciences, or weather.  The network of ASF partners allow different groups to come together as one for a common cause, and to bring a wider variety of programs and events to a much wider audience.

Q- Are donations to ASF tax deductable?

A- YES! We have been officially recognized as a 501(c)3 by the IRS, effective on Aug. 24, 2007. Please contact us to discuss donation options and various levels of sponsorship.

Q- What does ASF do with contributions?

A- Donations and contributions are primarily used to help fund programs, events, and safety clinics. We also are required to have the necessary licensing and insurance to perform these activities legally and safely. ASF is joining forces with other non-profits, so some of the contributions go towards membership fees in partner organizations, or to set up fundraising events.

Should you decide to contribute, you have the option of which event, cause, or program your contribution is applied to on the donation form. For example, if you wanted to contribute to veteran appreciation events, you would check that box on the donation form. That money will be put into a separate account by our accounting team, and be used for that purpose. ASF also issues periodic updates to keep their donors informed of the progress and success of our projects.

Q- Can I specify which sport I want to support?

A- Absolutely. ASF is involved in many sports, and some need more help than others. For instance, kiteboarders can make a contribution towards Kite4Life, our kiteboarding sector of ASF, and even specify what geographical area and what type of program or event the donation will be used for.

Q- How can I get involved with ASF?

A- First, check out the "Get Involved" pages to see some of the great opportunities within ASF and its partner organizations. You can also give us a call, or shoot us an email and let us know your interests, and how you would like to help. Its that simple!

Q- Who makes money from ASF?

A- The ASF Board of Directors is a volunteer board and does not earn a salary or receive any form of compensation, other than reasonable documented expenses related to ASF activities as defined ASF Policies and Procedures Manual. As of now, ASF has no paid staff, however, in the future shall hire paid professional staff to carry out daily operations of ASF under the supervision of the volunteer ASF board. Our bylaws, policies, and procedures are compliant with IRS regulations and all expenditures are a matter of public record.
